Win/Lose Situation

Win: spending the entire weekend with friends.

Lose: watching the Tennessee Vols get pounded by Florida.

So (as predicted), the Vols aren't off to a great start this football season. Sad times for die-hard Tennessee fans. But if you're like me, you don't care all that much about points on the scoreboard. There's much more to football than pigskin, points, winners and losers. The best part about football season is socializing with friends, revisiting campus, talking about the "good ol' days" of college (have I mentioned we're getting old?) and contemplating whether visiting Cool Beans is a good idea or a huge mistake (I stand by my vote of huge mistake).

Basically, we had another great weekend in Knoxville. Here are the photos to prove it...

I am terrible at all sports/games, apparently

I've always wanted to do one of those chest-bump things that football players do after a touchdown. This is what it looks like when I try. Special.

Surprise!

Last week, my sweet Mamaw Billie celebrated 75 years of living. To mark this milestone, my family started planning a surprise birthday party several weeks ago. The whole process meant that we had to keep a lot of secrets and tell a lot of lies, but we pulled it off! She was genuinely surprised when she walked into the room and realized that everyone was there for her. Classic!

Here are some photos from the party...

Yummy cake!

SURPRISE! Her reaction was priceless. She thought I was taking her to a "ladies luncheon" to celebrate her birthday. Little did she know...

She kept telling my dad, my uncle and me that she was "mad" at us. But the huge smile on her face told us otherwise.

My pretty Mamaw!

What a wonderful way to celebrate the life of such a wonderful woman. I am really blessed to call her my grandmother!

Happy Birthday, Mamaw!

Fall Means FOOTBALL!!!

More specifically; fall means Tennessee football. I know, I know, we're not exactly ranked numero uno this year (young team, new coach, etc.), but it is football time in Tennessee. And, I plan to celebrate that!

Here are a few photos from last weekend's drama-filled (early lead, lightning storm, evacuation, etc.) game against Oregon.

So, yea, we lost. But there's always next week: Tennessee v. Florida! Go Vols!!!

Labor Day Getaway

Jonathan and I spent the long Labor Day weekend relaxing with friends in the North Carolina mountains. We ventured to the Cashiers/Highlands region, crashing at this little lake house. Pretty fabulous, eh?

The weekend wasn't too shabby either; 10 adults, 4 kiddos, one boat trip, a football game, three delicious home-cooked dinners, a few waterfalls, games of corn hole, kayaking, dozens of beers, a game of Scrabble, a couple of bonfires and at least one campfire sing along. It was really quite terrific.

Here are a few pictures from the weekend...
